This research made by Grace and covered 26000 professional people from 96 countries. It reveals that 30% of employees in China said they work 1-3 hours during the summer holiday, 30% of employees have plan to work for more than 3 hours and 55% of employees said their work is just a little bit less than usual work. Grace said that Chinese employees work harder during the holiday. From the research of the whole world, 41% of employees said they work 1-3 hours during the holiday, 17% of employees have plan to work for more than 3 hours and 39% of employees said their work is just a little bit less than usual work.
The research also shows that males feel difficult to stop working. 60% of Chinese male employees work as usual, they need to make business phone calls, reply emails and dealing with business. The rate for Chinese female employees is 49% which is also higher than other countries. But there's a difference between male and female: 34% of male employees and 25% of female employees said they work 1-3 hours during summer holidays, 33% of male employees and 26% of female employees said they work more than 3 hours during the holidays.
Hans Leijten, the CEO of Grace Asia area, said " the extent people devote to their job around the world is respectful. There's a high rate that employees work during holiday, especially in China. However, this is another signal that employees are overloaded or feel unsafe about their job. Some researches show that this has some pressure on the employees' live. It's important they have some private time." He also points out that the high tech such as video chat and WIFI make "work everywhere" come true. We need to use the high tech in a right way such as let employees work more effectively and nimble. This is good for both company and employees.
