The hero that started the DC Extended Universe may not be its most visible as Superman's solo sequel is reportedly placed on hold.

In 2013, Warner Bros. released "Man of Steel," the latest Superman movie which ushered in the new DC Extended Universe.

Superman will also share the stage with another DC Comics caped superstar in "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice." However, the spotlight may shy away from the Kal-El after that.

Of course, Superman will still lead be in the two confirmed "Justice League" movies but that would not make him the most visible hero of DC Comics. "Man of Steel" lead actor Henry Cavill has just confirmed that the character will not be in "Suicide Squad" via Metro UK.

"When asked by Metro.co.uk whether he would cameo in Suicide Squad, Henry Cavill gave a firm 'no', however, his response to the question of him appearing in a sequel gave hopes for DC Comic fans.

'I might be!' Henry answered."

The former question leaves no hope. Most comic book movie actors are rarely blunt and straightforward. Cavill did not beat around the bush and flatly said "No."

Filming for "Suicide Squad" has also officially wrapped and no less than Jared Leto shared the photo evidence on Instagram. Thus, a Superman cameo is really out of the question.

However, the reasons for his non-inclusion might be because of the timeline, as /Film notes. While "Suicide Squad" happens after "Man of Steel" because of the "supers" reference, it is not known whether the events take place before or after "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice."

What would be more tragic for fans of the Kryptonian was if Cavill's statement about his solo sequel would also be shot down. Apparently, that would be the case if a report from Den of Geek holds true.

The report claims that the recent rumor about George Miller directing "Man of Steel 2" was taken out of context.

"One source says that what Miller directs will depend on what story most interests him, his take on it and everyone's availability.

While this doesn't rule out the possibility of Miller taking on "Man Of Steel 2," another source has said that, as far as they understand it, the sequel is on 'permanent hold.'"

The site fails to elaborate what "permanent hold" is. While a project "on hold" means it is set aside for the meantime, the "permanent" blurs the definition.

Warner Bros has a full lineup of DC movies and sequels including an eventual Batman solo movie, but "Man of Steel 2" does not have a definite release date planned. Is it a possibility that there will never be a release date at all?
