Japanese scientists have invented "nanosheets," an ultrathin coating that can cling to the body and guard burn victims against infections.
Yosuke Okamura from Tokai University said that the nanosheets can adhere to flat surfaces and to uneven ones without any additional adhesives.

The biomaterial nanosheets are flexible and sticky which can be used in properly dressing wrinkles and ridges of burn victims.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention said that the nanosheet can make a big difference in the treatment of burned victims.
Researchers explained that burn wounds are susceptible to infection, and sealing them of from bacteria can help burn victims to successfully recover.
The nanosheets were made from biodegradable polyester called polylactic acid (PLA), they said.
PLA is a biodegradable thermoplastic aliphatic polyester that comes from renewable resources like corn starch, tapioca roots, chips and sugarcane.
Researchers said that nanosheet patchwork can effectively cover the smallest bumps and wrinkles, and then after the material dried, it will remain in place.
They also said the dressing can keep out bacterias like Pseudomonas Aeruginosa, a bacteria that can cause hospital-acquired infection that can be deadly.
The nanosheet dressing can protect wounds for three consecutive days but with additional coating the nanosheet can keep bacteria out for six days.
This can cut down the number of times dressings are changed, researchers said.
To date, Okamura and his team are already developing a set of similar coating composed of polymers with phosphorylcholine that can be used as coatings for medical devices.
