HTC has been known to be one of the major providers of smartphones alongside big companies such as Apple and Samsung. Little known about HTC is that their latest HTC M9 made a major flop compared to the successful debut of its HTC One and One M8 in 2013.

According to PCAdvisor, there have been no major changes since the HTC One M8 that made the One M9 just one of those re established units in the form of a different name. Of course there might have been few and minor changes and updates, but considering the longevity of time before they released the HTC One M9, users expected more from the device.

While rumors surround that the next HTC flagship phone will be called HTC One M10, there is also strong suggestions that HTC may just let go of their elaborate device naming and simply call it the HTC 02. In June, HTC has been fully aware of their poor performance when Cher Wang of HTC issued an apology saying "HTC's recent performance has let people down."

According to Taipei Times, the recent breakdown on HTC's sales has been brought by their poor operations and traditionalist type of marketing strategy. Some of the issues that plagued the One M9 have been the thermal concept of the device, an issue that greatly affected their shipment timeline.

Comparing their marketing budget to big names such as Samsung and Apple, Wang admitted that they are way behind the trend and have been surpassed 20 times more by these giant phone providers. She promised to improved the operational efficiency as well as improve their marketing strategies in order to improve their performance in the market.

In a post by Trusted Reviews, the disposal of the supposed "One M" tag could actually help alleviate the market collapse. With hopes of tagging their next flagship phone as HTC 02, the name could well rebrand the next upcoming lineup. According to Pocket-Lint, the HTC 02 is packed with 4GB RAM, a snapdragon 820 processor with a 6 inch QHD screen. The HTC 02 is expected to be launched this coming October.
