There are a lot of rumors spreading like a wildfire that the upcoming Microsoft Surface Pro 4 will have two screen variants; however, a contradicting report claims that the much-awaited laplet will have three variants to compete with Apple iPad Mini.

According to multiple reports, Microsoft is now giving discounts to its predecessor - Microsoft Surface Pro 3 - which many speculates that the upcoming next-generation Surface Pro release is nearing.

Citing a Taiwanese upstream supply chain, Digitimes reported that Microsoft's next flagship will release a 12-inch and a 13- to 14-inch Surface Pro 4 variant, where it will be equipped with powerful hardware specs. This move by Microsoft, along with Amazon's plan on releasing their 12-inch tablet, is said to increase the company's revenue for 2015 and to benefit Taiwan's supply chain.

Meanwhile, a contradicting report by CrossMap says that Microsoft is set to unveil three screen size variants - the 14-inch, the 12-inch and the 8-inch Surface Pro 4, wherein the Surface Pro 4 8-inch variant is expected and believed to compete with Apple's iPad Mini.

According to earlier speculations, the said new Microsoft flagship will boast high-end specifications such having SkyLake chipsets (Intel Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7), 16GB RAM space, 1TB internal storage, an improved stylus pen, USB Type-C port and Microsoft's own Windows 10 Operating System out of the box.

Rumors also suggests that the upcoming Surface Pro 4 will be a fan-less device, due to the new SkyLake chipset, plus will sport 8MP rear snapper with 3.5MP camera for selfie lovers. Apart from the features mentioned such having a fanless design, the 2-in-1 device is speculated to sport 2k screen resolution and a 3D Facial recognition feature.

The software-giant is yet to confirm the exact specification of its Surface Pro 4 but the new flagship is expected to be released in an October 19 New York event, alongside Lumia 940, Lumia 940 XL and Microsoft Band.
