Hostage Killed By Police, Not Bank Robbers

A Stockton woman who was shot and killed last month during a bank robbery was confirmed to have been killed by police bullets.

Stockton police have confirmed that it was one of their own who killed Misty Holt-Singh, 41, on July 16.

The mother of two was taken hostage, along with two other women, during a bank robbery in Stockton at the Bank of the West.

The police responded at the scene of the robbery which ended into a chase and gun battle with three suspects.

The robbers fired over a hundred shots with an AK47, according to Stockton investigators.

Two of the suspects were found dead after the gun battle.

Only one suspect survived, 19-year-old Jaime Ramos, who police said used Singh as a human shield. He was not wounded.

Singh was shot about 10 times during the shoot-out. The two other hostages were able to escape during the police chase.

In a news conference, Stockton police Chief Eric Jones said that ballistic reports confirmed that the bullets which hit Singh were from the police.

However, Chief Jones did not disclose the location of the gunshot wounds, the caliber of the gun, and whether the shots were fired by one or a couple of officers.

The chief defended the actions of his officers saying the robbers fired shots first and they did not have a choice but to fire back.

"The manner in which Misty's life was taken raises serious questions and concerns," the Singh family said in a statement, released by attorney Gregory Bentley.

The family is hopeful that proper protocol will be observed regarding the investigation of the July 16 incident, the statement further said.

The family's attorney has reportedly already requested information from the Stockton Police, the County Sherriff's Office, and the Highway Patrol, all of which took part in pursuing the bank robbers at the time.
