Entering his tenth year in the league, small forward Rudy Gay may be headed to his fourth team as the Sacramento Kings are rumored to be having trade talks with the Chicago Bulls for the possible acquisition of the former Connecticut standout.

Sacramento had long been speculated in intending to trade the 29-year-old forward, along with their franchise center DeMarcus Cousins, and was said to be "pushing" the right trade for him since June of this year, as per Hoops Rumors.

There had been no takers the last two months as teams seem to be already set with their rosters in time for the coming training camps until Sacramento's rumored negotiations with the Bulls recently surfaced.

ESPN's NBA Trade Machine indicated that trading Gay in exchange for Chicago's forward backups Taj Gibson and Doug McDermott would be successful in terms of being accommodated by the salary cap.

The trade would slightly affect the Bulls' frontline depth, but they would get a quality piece at their wingman position. Gay would be an offensive upgrade over Mike Dunleavy at the starting three spot or he could provide instant offense off the bench for new coach Fred Hoiberg.

Without Gibson, Hoiberg still has the up and coming Nikola Mirotic as his backup stretch four behind Pau Gasol, which is still quite strong on paper. Meanwhile, McDermott's backup small forward spot will be filled in either by Gay or Dunleavy.

Chicago Now's Morten Stig Jensen said that Gay's talent and skills "should fit in well" in Hoiberg's system and the Bulls' current roster as he seemed to thrive more on being the second or third option than be a team's leading superstar.

With Derrick Rose and Jimmy Butler sure to primary handle the team's offense, Gay could be more comfortable with less pressure on his shoulders.

The Bulls are actually heavy at the four spot right now with Cameron Bairstow and Bobby Portis also listed at power forward. Losing Taj Gibson may be an emotional burden for the team initially, but they could gain more by having the 6-foot-8 Baltimore native in their lineup.

Gay averaged 21.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 3.7 assists in 35.4 minutes per game last season for Sacramento, and these numbers would only make the Bulls' roster a lot stronger.
