Power forward Tristan Thompson may be eyeing a max deal with the Toronto Raptors next summer if the Cleveland Cavaliers don't lock him up now on a long-term, max deal worth $94,343,125.

If the Cavs refuse to give in to his demands, Thompson is prepared to sign a one-year qualifying offer--his last with the Cavs-- and then sign a max deal with the Raptors next summer, according to NBC Sports.

While Thompson is an excellent rebounder, versatile defender and can score near the rim, there are question marks about whether he deserves a max deal considering that he has limited shooting range and is not an elite rim protector.

Furthermore, with Kevin Love starting at power forward and Timofey Mozgov at center,  Thompson will just be a backup at best, something the Cavs should consider in giving a max deal.

However, Thompson has considerable bargaining leverage since the  Cavs won't retain the  cap space to sign a near-equal replacement if they lose him.

The Cavs happen to keep Thompson only because they have his Bird Rights.

It will be less than a month before the Cavs start training camp, and they may have to act fast.

Nonetheless, Thompson woud be at a risk in signing a one-year qualifying offer since an injury or a poor season could derail his chances at a big payday, whether it's with the Raptors or some other team.

The Raptors may be interested in Thompson, a native Canadian, who could serve as an upgrade at power forward.

Thompson was born in Toronto and attended high school in nearby Brampton, according to cleveland.com.

However,  the Raptors don't have enough cap space to offer Thompson the max at the moment and will have to wait until next summer.
