Microsoft has shut down its video calling app, Skype, on its first generation smartphones and on older versions of Macs and personal computers.
The biggest to be hit by the demise of Skype are smartphone devices running Windows Phone 7. Microsoft has removed the Skype app and dropped the app's support.

Many Skype users on Windows Phone 7 immediately complained about Microsoft's decision, saying it made their phones unusable. It goes to show that a lot of people use Skype for communication.
Microsoft answered by saying Windows Phone 7 handsets don't support the Windows Phone 8 or 8.1 OS, so upgrading to Windows Phone 8 or 8.1 isn't possible, as well.
The only way to continue using Skype is by purchasing a new handset.
If replacing the phone isn't possible, users can cancel their subscription and ask the wireless mobile carrier if a refund is feasible.
Skype, one of the world's most popular VoIP services, is available on iPhone, Android devices and on desktop computers, as well.
With tougher competition among brands and devices and consumers choosing tablets and smartphones over desktops, Microsoft decided to improve its service by offering new features.
On the other hand, Microsoft still continue to support Skype on older Android and iOS versions.
Skype still runs under Android version 2.3 or a higher OS. iPhone 4 devices with iOS 6 or higher are still lucky to have Skype.
Blackberry devices with version 10 of OS are also not affected by Microsoft's decision.
