The United Nations appointed Amal Alamuddin, the fiancée of Hollywood star George Clooney, as part of the panel that will investigate war crimes that Israel possibly committed in Gaza.
Alamuddin, 36, is a British-Lebanese lawyer specializing in human rights. She will be part of the panel tasked to look into possible international law violations that occurred in the Gaza Strip in the last two months, according to the Irish Independent.

If she finds that war crimes were committed, Alamuddin will recommend steps how to bring the human rights violators to justice.
The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) also appointed two other high-profile lawyers to serve alongside Alamuddin in the probe.
In a statement, the U.N. said the independent commission is responsible for identifying those responsible for war crimes and make them accountable for what they did. The commission is designed to put an end to "impunity" and protect civilians from assaults, the UN explained.
Meanwhile, Israel's Foreign Ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor said they "cannot expect justice" from the panel that has strong opinions against Israel. He said the council's report is already done and "remains only to be signed."
The independent commission's deadline for submitting its findings to the Geneva-based UNHRC is March 2015.
Earlier on Tuesday, Alamuddin said she would not be part of the three-member Gaza investigation panel. Although she felt honored to be chosen by the UN, she said she had to turn down the position because she was currently involved in eight cases and other commitments, The Jerusalem Post reported.
The British-Lebanese barrister released a statement conveying her horrification at the situation in the Gaza Strip. She also echoed the UN's call for an independent probe and accountability for the crimes that were committed, especially for the death of civilians in the region.
Alamuddin became engaged to Clooney earlier this year. She was also part of the international tribunal that examined the assassination of ex-Lebanon Prime Minister Rafix Hariri and the Syria peace efforts of former UN head Kofi Annan.
