Following the blockbuster success of "Mission: Impossible- Rogue Nation", Hollywood star Tom Cruise is set to star in a sequel to his 2012 movie "Jack Reacher." The movie has been confirmed for release on Oct. 2016.

Paramount made the "Jack Reacher 2" announcement Wednesday and added that "The Last Samurai" director Edward Zwick will lead the movie that is set to begin shooting in Nov., The Hollywood Reported learned.

The first "Jack Reacher" movie grossed a good $218 million worldwide. The film is about a detective who works on a string of homicide cases allegedly committed by a military sniper. The film is based on a book series by British writer Jim Grant whose pen name is Lee Child.

While there has not been a cast announcement yet, the first "Jack Reacher" also starred Rosamund Pike, Richard Jenkins, and David Oyelowo.

Cruise has not been without controversy over the year after being entangled in the Church of Scientology issues wherein the documentary "Going Clear" mentioned Cruise's alleged deep involvement on the group. Other rumors were that he has not seen his daughter Suri for years because Scientology forbids him.

However, all the controversies has not seemed to affect the actor's bankability as proven by the epic success of the latest "Mission Impossible" movie opening at a whopping $55, a recent report by The Hollywood Reporter said.

Cruise's "Mission: Impossible- Rogue Nation" made a box office success earning $480 million worldwide to date, not including its pending opening in China.

Meanwhile, Cruise's ex-wife Katie Holmes and daughter Suri has been seen on the actress' film set in New York over the past weeks where the two took a break and spent time together, Daily Mail reported.

Suri surprised her mom at the set of her new movie "All We Had" a film Holmes stars and is also directing. The movie which is also based on a novel talks about a single mother, played by Holmes, who struggles to build a life with her daughter.
