The opening night of the 72nd Venice International Film Festival kicked off on Wednesday. White gowns ruled on the red carpet with Spanish actress Paz Vega, Victoria's Secret model Alessandra Ambrosia, American actress Elizabeth Banks and German actress Diane Kruger showcasing their sartorial style in the color. The film festival started with the premiere of "Everest".

Spanish actress Paz Vega, who is also on the jury this year, gave her white gown a jewel-encrusted twist, Irish Independent reported. The 39-year-old star wore a halter neck floor-sweeping gown which was cinched at the waist. It showed off her slim figure.
Also sporting the trend was Ambrosia. The Victoria's Secret angel channeled a bohemian look in a sheer white dress. Her summery number is by Philosophy. The white eyelet dress featured cut-outs, bandeau, and ruffled straps.
The floor-length number had frills, ragged edges and a racer-back. The see-through fabric of the dress showed a glimpse of her underwear. The Brazilian beauty put her spin on the look, choosing oversized statement earrings and matching rings.
The 34-year-old model carried a personalized clutch embellished with jewels and flashed her bright red manicure. Ambrosia completed her look in a pair of sky high T-bar shoes which added some height to her endless pins.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth Banks chose to wear a white Dolce & Gabbana dress. The blonde beauty paired her look with a metallic box clutch and black Christian Louboutin high heels. She accessorized with Eva Fehren rings, and earrings by Jemma Wynne and EF Collection.
Diane Kruger stunned in a white Prada gown. The actress pulled off her look with Lee Savage clutch and Kwiat earrings. Both Banks and Kruger are on the jury at this year's festival. While the former opted for a bare back dress, Kruger wowed in her dress that had an embellished cape.
Due to their all white look, the Italian media confused the pair - running an interview with The Hunger Games star Elizabeth, naming her as "The Bridge" actress Diane.
Meanwhile, "Everest" star Jake Gyllenhaal and Josh Brolin. The former who also walked the red carpet was mobbed by excited fans.
The film tells the true story of an ill-fated expedition up the world's highest mountain in 1996, which saw several climbers die when they were trapped in a snowstorm. British actress Emily Watson, who also stars in the film, looked elegant in an emerald gown.
