Davis initially suffered the injury in Game 6 of a first-round playoff series against the San Antonio Spurs on April 30.

He went on to  play eight more playoff games following the injury.

Davis is among those that contributed to what is a 91 percent year-over-year increase in playoff games lost to injuries from the previous season, based on a Forbes report.

In 2014, there were 109 man games lost to injury in 89 games, while in 2015 there were 182 games lost in 78 games, according to trainer Jeff Stotts , who maintains a database of NBA injuries.

The 29-year-old Davis averaged four points and 2.3 rebounds in 12.1 minutes per game while shooting  45.9 percent from the field in  74 contests for the Clippers last season.

He attracted  interest from several NBA teams, including the Clippers and Dallas Mavericks, before it became apparent he required ankle surgery.

The Clippers have so far inked Josh Smith, Cole Aldrich and Chuck Hayes among the big men to back up All-Star Blake Griffin and center DeAndre Jordan.

Meanwhile, Memphis Grizzlies first-round draft pick Jarell Martin fractured his left foot after colliding with another player during a workout on Wednesday.

Grizzlies physicians Fred Azar and Drew Murphy was sheduled to perform the surgery on Martin on Thursday.

The 21-year-old Martin was selected with the 25th overall pick in the June draft.

He averaged 13.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.4 assists in two years with Lousiana State University.
