Radar Online reported that, based on the tax documents submitted by the Ian Somerhalder Foundation, the charity accumulated $365,440 worth of grants and contributions from donors in 2012, along with $34,457, totaling an overall income of $400,072.
Within the same year, only one grant worth $550 was paid out to the Best Friends Animal Society and Wildlife Rehab.
The tax documents do tell a long tale as these showed the charity allocating $26,000 for employees' salary and $579 for their benefits. A large sum of $16,692 had been paid out to lawyers while $29,680 went to accounting.
Office expenses and rent had a sum of approximately of $21,000 whereas $20,122 was spent for travel expenses alone for one year. Insurance was paid out with $10,079, PayPal fees added up to $7,077, and other expenses totaled to $152,917.
All in all, the charity's own expenses summed up to at least 278 times the amount of grants that they paid out.
In 2011, the foundation raked in $339,878 in total and allocated $10,070 for their grants.
For 2013, no records of the charity's grant program were published on their official website, although it did state their total income of $504,240 and expenses adding up to $193,027.
The website also states that, although a main component of its goals is internal including increased awareness of global deforestation and combating animal cruelty, the Ian Somerhalder Foundation pledges to allocate "funds and resources towards global conservation, green energy development/deployment and educational tools."
The actor's charity organization has not made any response or comment to Radar Online regarding the filed tax documents.
