The sessions of the course, to be presented in English, would focus on the UN peacekeeping missions. More than 40 Chinese military training instructors and foreign attachés to China would conduct the sessions. A range of topics delving into different aspects of the UN's peacekeeping missions would be included in the course. Participants would also be taught case analysis and partake in simulated drills. The course would include combat exercises which spans over 14 different themes including field rescue, kidnap and ransom response as well as conflict mediation.
China plays a major role in the UN and this year, which marks the 70th anniversary of the end of Second World War, is also the 70th anniversary of the founding of the UN.
China has contributed to the UN in several ways besides ensuring peace and security, Beijing's valuable contribution to development is recognized globally.
"China has become an indispensable member of the UN. Without Chinese participation, it's very difficult to think that we can do our global things properly," UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has said.
China officially started participating in UN peacekeeping missions in 1990. Beijing has deployed about 1,670 military observers across the globe. While the UN has more than 1,800 military observers dispatched globally.
Ban Ki-moon, who attended China's V-Day celebrations along with 30 heads of states, said the Chinese sacrifice and contributions in WWII is recognized by the international community.
Ban Ki-moon also said that he was counting on China's leadership and strong engagement to realize a new package of 17 sustainable development targets that will be adopted by member states. The meeting, which is scheduled for New York later this month, will see the adoption of a new set of development goal for the next 15 years. The current Millennium Development Goals will expire by the end of this year.
