It is only a few days to go before pound-for-pound great Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26 KOs) faces a reportedly overmatched Andre Berto (30-3, 23 KOs) on Saturday and allegedly there are still thousands of tickets available for the live gate at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

ESPN's Darren Rovell recently reported that according to Ticketmaster, there are still "more than 2,100 seats available" in the arena for the September 12th bout that features who is supposed to be the no. 1 crowd draw and pay-per-view king of the sport, Mayweather.

What is more surprising about it is how low the price of the tickets were compared to Floyd's fight against Filipino pugilist Manny Pacquiao last May.

The most expensive ringside tickets for Mayweather-Berto are said to be tagged at $1,500, which are the cheapest ones for the Mayweather-Pacquiao tiff.

Rovell also indicated that as per StubHub, the average ticket price for MayPac was $5,095 while the fight on Saturday night only averages $799, curiously shocking for someone with a star power like Mayweather.

Aside from ticket prices, MGM hotel prices have stagnated unlike during MayPac where it rose to up to four times the normal price.

Reports said that Mayweather-Berto tickets were even used for promotional stuff just to exhaust them. A two-night $1,000 accommodation at the MGM Grand now includes two free Mayweather-Berto tickets.

The Independent pointed out that the undefeated American's "fairy tale farewell" is set to become a "flop" in the box office this time around as fans were said to be "avoiding" the fight.

Even so, the report noted that Mayweather will still earn a minimum of $38 million "regardless of ticket sales and pay-per-view buys." The effect of the fans' seeming apathy on the fight will be mainly felt by the organizers, broadcasters, and promoters.

Boxing News 24's Tim Fletcher said that some of the reasons why this happened is because of Mayweather's wrong choice of opponent and the timing of the fight.

A lot of boxing fans feel that Berto would not give much of a challenge anyway and have chosen not to buy into another running, hugging, and dancing exhibition by Mayweather.

As for the timing, the lackluster and disappointing MayPac bout is still very fresh in the minds of the consuming public, which shunned new boxing fans away as they felt they did not get their money's worth because of Mayweather's over-defensive fighting style and Pacquiao pushing through even though he is not 100 percent ready because of an injured shoulder.
