Android Lollipop 5.1.1 update is being awaited since a very long time for these older devices in the Z series, which is expected to be distrubuted via OTA, The Latino Post reported.

Sony Xperia ZR, Sony Xperia Z, Sony Xperia ZL, Sony Xperia Tablet Z, along with the Sony Xperia Tablet Z LTE models are up to get this upgrade soon. This upgrade is confirmed to not being sent to the Sony Xperia Z1 and the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact devices.

Stage Fright bug removal was the main aim of this upgrade. This infects the device in the form of an MMS video. If the user opens this malicious video, the hackers can easily get the access to the entire information with just a single click.

Sony, however, did not put this patch in the Android Lollipop 5.1.1 upgrade this time. They are planning to release a different upgrade entirely to fix the stage fright issue. It is yet to confirmed when this patch will be released, and for which devices.

In other news, Sony also rolled out the developer's preview version of Android 6.0 Marshmallow in the month of June for Sony Xperia Z3, Sony Xperia Z2, Sony Xperia Z1, Sony Xperia T2, and Sony Xperia T2 Ultra devices.

These devices will therefore receive the Android 6.0 update first and foremost.  This upgrade is expected to be released in October this year. It is yet to be confirmed if the 2013 Z series will get this upgrade.
