Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Pakistan was conducting a proxy war in Kashmir against India as he visits the town of Kargil on Tuesday.
Prime Minister Modi is the first Indian leader who has visited the remote Himalayan town since the war between India and Pakistan took place 15 years ago. More than 1,000 people were proclaimed dead in the battle.

On his second visit after winning the election in May, reports said that Modi vowed to strengthen his country’s armed forces by making India independent when it comes to defense manufacturing equipped with modern technology.
Furthermore, Modi expressed that terrorism was a global problem. He also encouraged all humanitarian forces of the world to unite to fight it.
The neighboring country has lost their capacity to fight a conventional war, but remains engaged terror wars, Modi said during his speech in the Himalayan region of Leh.
Indian troops have lost more soldiers in the proxy war compared to the conventional battles with Pakistan, he added.
Modi, a Hindu nationalist politician, won by a landslide, plans to restore India's economic and military prowess. Reports also indicated that he promised to meet the security threat posed by a rising China and the long-running territorial dispute with Pakistan.
There are regular clashes on the de facto border, also called the Line of Control, which divides Kashmir into Indian and Pakistani district.
Modi's speech in Leh did not give any details about the Pakistan's "proxy war" but India complained about Pakistan backing separatist militants slipping in from Pakistani-controlled Kashmir to stage attacks.
Pakistani authorities, however, accused India of a ceasefire violation and filed a formal protest against them.
