Webster will leave New Zealand on Saturday for three days of workouts with the Pelicans in front of head coach Alvin Gentry and his assistants next week, according to Stuff.
It wll serve as an audtion for the 25-year-old Breakers and Tall Blacks star qualify for training camp and compete for a roster spot that is very much up for grabs.
The 6-2 Webster said it's a dream for him to make it in the NBA and is grateful to the Breakers for helping him get there.
Webster's Sydney-based management team told Webster last Friday that the Pelicans needed him on hand as soon as possible.
There are some significant hurdles for to clear Webster before he gets a contract waved but that by itself is alreaady a huge opportunity.
Webster has previously worked out for other NBA teams including for the Indiana Pacers at a mini-camp in June, according to Sports Illustrated.
The North Shore native, and son of Kiwi NBL legend Tony Webster said he is realistic and doesn't expect to be a star in the NBA.
Webster said he was informed the Pelicans were looking for someone who can fill in the role of a shooter, and he's confident he can take the challenge.
He is aware that he also needs to tighten up on defense because to play at the NBA level one has to contribute at both ends of the floor.
Webster hasn't been specifically told what the Pelicans coaches are looking for.
Nonetheless, his agent, ex-Minnesota Timberwolves, San Antonio Spurs and Australian national team player Shane Heal told him he's got a real shot if he gets invited to training camp as there's a spot available in his position.
Like Webster, the 6-0 Heal was an undersized shooting guard with superb shooting and the right amount of feistiness and confidence.
