A man found guilty of killing and raping a 19-year-old female student from the University of New Hampshire dropped his efforts to be a no-show during his sentencing.
Seth Mazzaglia, 32, said he didn't want to attend the sentencing and listen to the victim's family "yell and cry" about what a horrible person he was, according to the Huffington Post.

However, on Tuesday, the defendant's lawyer withdrew the request after state prosecutors contended that Mazzaglia be required to attend the sentencing out of fairness to the bereaved family of the victim.
In June, Mazzaglia was convicted of murder in the first degree regarding the death of Elizabeth Marriot in October 2012, when he killed her after she resisted his sexual advances.
The testimony of Mazzaglia's ex-girlfriend, Kathryn McDonough, played a key part in the conviction as the young woman testified that Mazzaglia raped then strangled the victim at his apartment in Dover.
In a sworn statement, McDonough also said she was the one who brought Marriot into their apartment to join them in their S&M sexual role play.
In an initial statement, McDonough claimed that Marriot died because of the rough sex between the two of them. However, after obtaining immunity, she confessed that it was Mazzaglia who tied and raped Marriot.
Prosecutor Peter Hinckley told Stafford County Judge Steven Horan that the defendant should appear during the sentencing for the interest of the court, the public, and the victim's family.
In recorded phone conversation, Mazzaglia said he wanted to avoid Marriot's friends and relatives, because he didn't want to "sit there for an hour and a half listening to them yell and whine and bitch and moan about what a monster I am."
Melissa Marriot, mother of the victim, said she was not surprised by what Mazzaglia said, stating that he is "selfish" and a "coward."
Prosecutors said that Marriot's body was thrown in a river, though it has never been found.
