Iraqi security forces fire artillery during clashes with Sunni militant group Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) on the outskirts of the town of Udaim in Diyala province, June 22, 2014.
President Barack Obama deployed additional 130 U.S. military advisers to assess the humanitarian situation of the trapped civilians in the Sinjar area, U.S Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel announced on Tuesday.
Hagel made it clear that the deployment is not a ground operation, but instead was sent to evaluate options how to get the Iraqi civilians out of danger, officials told NBC News.

The troops will no longer get involved in combat like the U.S military involvement in the eight-year war in Iraq, Hagel added.
Another defense official said that the mission of the extra troops' -- comprised of Marines and special forces -- is to develop further humanitarian aid options for the war victims.
The mission could last less than a week, another official explained.
Some reports said that U.S President Obama insisted that he will not send back American ground forces to Iraq. But since the Yazidi crisis worsen, American officials decided to establish a humanitarian corridor soon and get the Yazidis off the mountain.
The additional troops arrived in Irbil, eastern part of Sinjar, will be working with representatives of the State Department and United States Agency for International Development to coordinate plans with other international partners and organizations that commits to aid the Yazidi refugees, officials added.
According to some reports, American cargo planes were dropping food and water in the past days but the refugee situation become drastic.
Though there are supplies it’s not enough to the stranded Yazidis, one military official said.
The additional 130 military advisers were included to 90 US security forces who are already in Baghdad and 160 troops, working with Iraqi security forces were in operations centers. Around 900 American security personnel were already in Iraq.
