A Delta State University professor committed suicide on Monday evening after killing two people. Police are yet to determined the motive behind the killings.

After the shooting, Lamb drove his vehicle to his place of work, Delta State University. Investigators believe he entered the office of his colleague, Ethan Schmidt and shot him.
The police had already been alerted of the vehicle that Lamb was driving and its license plate. After being cornered by pursuing police cars, Lamb abandoned his car and fled on foot to a nearby wooded area.
As the police waited for reinforcement to arrive, they heard shots fired in the area. Later, they found Lamb had shot himself. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, but he was already declared dead.
According to university officials, Lamb is a geography and social science professor and got his degree from DSU last year. Schmidt, meanwhile, is an American history teacher.
Gautier police spokesperson Matthew Hoggatt said they are considering that both of the killings are somehow connected to each other. He also revealed that they had spoken to Lamb earlier who told them he does not want to go to prison. The spokesperson, however, would not tell when the conversation with Lamb occured.
Meanwhile, Delta State President William La Forge announced through social media that the campus has been reopened, although classes are still suspended. A vigil will be held inside campus grounds on Tuesday evening. Police closed down the university and searched the facility in the belief that Lamb was hiding inside the school.
Local restaurant owner John Noel said the situation has returned to normal after the chaos caused by the shooting. He remembered meeting Lamb in his bar and that many people in town also knew him.
