An app that enables a user to transform his favorite image into a "one-touch icon" and place the icon on his smartphone's home screen has been downloaded 25 million times to date.

"CocoPPa" allows smartphone users to create their very own cute and customized home screens using image submitted by creators and users. It allows a user to fill his home screen with all of his favorite pictures.

The new icon is basically a link to the app. CocoPPa is currently available for the Android and iOS systems for free.

Because of its user-generated content, CocoPPa offers a collection of more than six million icon designs and over one million wallpapers

The app was developed by a Japanese firm, United, Inc. (https://cocoppa.com/)

The majority of downloads were from Japan, but the app's popularity is increasing in the United States, where the company is trying to focus its business.

The app offers numerous alternative home screens, wallpapers and app icons for its users. The alternative themes may include licensed content from cartoons, movies as well the ones created by the CocoPPa users.

More content can be unlocked but it comes from in-app purchases, according to The Next Web.

Android users have more choices on CocoPPa beyond its standard screen savers and wallpapers. For iOS users, though, the experience is limited to the icons.

The reason the application can replace Apple's built-in icons is that it CocoPPa allows iOS devices to house shortcuts to apps.

A user essentially downloads a modified icon, for instance, and then hides the native icon elsewhere or in a folder. Users must take note not to delete the original icon as this will uninstall the program from the device.

The new icon, which can be modified further, acts just like shortcuts on a desktop or laptop. Having a shortcut to the app and not dealing with the app directly may lead to some frustration as it takes a second or two longer to finish loading.
