The 2016 Volkswagen Passat has a new look and fresh packaging that promises safer features and better technology.

First, according to AutoGuide, the Passat has a new in-dash technology that the second-generation modular infotainment platform (MIB II) has been fitted to the car that brings along a standard touch screen for every version of the car. Also, Car-Net system is available, which has a suite of connectivity features Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink. In addition to this, a new foot-operated trunk feature has been installed that allows the owner to open the rear cargo hold by waving a foot under the rear bumper.

Second, the improved safety features like automatic post-collision braking system is new and standard on all Passat models. Therefore, the brakes are automatically applied by the car will halt it if collision is detected by the airbag sensors. This reduces the chance of any subsequent impacts.

Third, the fresh design, according to CNET, has tweaks to the Sedan's style and trim line-up and the addition of a new R-Line trim package that VW likes to inject some sportiness that the other lacks. It has a more aggressive front end with a larger four-bar grille and new lines in the hood while the rear end has a new chrome strip on the trunk that makes the lights appear lower. Also, the new LED headlights and taillights are designed for reduced energy consumption but with better performance.

Fourth, the R-Line has unique rocker panels, revised bumper with gloss black accents, a modified rear diffuser, and larger 19-inch aluminum alloy wheels, packing 235/40 ZR tires.

Fifth, interior revisions were made slightly with new instrument panel that contains two large gauges, which can be seen behind the steering wheel, MIB II touch screen as mentioned that is fitted in the center stack, and upgraded materials such as new steering wheel, a two-tone décor, new chrome and piano black trim. Moreover, the backseat passengers can now also enjoy the heated seats.

Sixth, the engine line-up for the Passat remains the same. The car offers a 1.8 liter turbocharged four-cylinder at the base, a 2 liter TDI diesel option or the top dog 3.6 liter V6. It also puts out 170 horsepower and 177 pound feet of torque.

Lastly, the pricing for the 2016 Volkswagen Passat has not yet been announced but VW did reveal that with the 1.8 liter four-cylinder engine, it would start at $22,440 -- having the same base price as the previous VW model.
