This week, Cosby has been reported to be stripped off of two honorary degrees from two prestigious universities. Both Fordham and Marquette, which are Jesuit institutions, have taken back the degrees they have presented Cosby with. Fordham presented Cosby an honorary degree in 2001.
According to Vulture, the university issued a statement to its students, saying that they presented the degree to Cosby "because of the significant role he played in breaking the color barrier in American television and popular culture". The board of trustees unanimously voted to rescind the degree.
The university cited that Cosby's willingness to drug and rape women for his own gratification has damaged the women's reputations. This "hurt not only his victims, but all women." The Marquette University presented Cosby with an honorary degree just two years ago in 2013. The university cited that it upholds important values and lives by them.
"Every day, we live these values by challenging our students to integrate knowledge and faith into their real-life decisions in ways that will shape their lives," wrote university president Michael R. Lovell and provost Daniel Myers. Both Marquette and Fordham revoked the degrees months after Spelman University cut ties with Cosby according to TV Guide.
Cosby has admitted to drugging and raping women over tge course of his decades-long career. He has not been charged of any crime as of yet. On October 9, Cosby will be facing deposition. A few weeks ago, about a dozen of his accusers came out on A&E to tell their stories.
