The weekend offers a variety of movies from different studios, all opening in wide releases. The title expected to take the top spot, however, is animated film Hotel Transylvania 2.

The Sony-produced title features celebrities such as Adam Sandler, Selena Gomez and Andy Samberg, among others. Market Watch predicts that the movie will open to $35 million. The first installment of the family movie made $42 million in its opening weekend three years ago in 2012. Hotel Transylvania 1 has proceeded to earn $347 million that year, and holds the record for Sony's biggest opening weekend.

The sequel has been garnering positive reviews and has gotten an 86 percent audience score from Rotten Tomatoes. A Forbes review calls it "funny." "I laughed out loud a lot more than I was expecting to, and my kids had an absolute blast. Yes, there is a little more to talk about in regards to the film." Forbes' Scott Mendelson said of the film.

Sony produced the family comedy with an amount of $80 million, and Variety said that the sequel has generated an impressive 137,000 tweets, beating Rio 2's 135,000 last year. Because of its appeal to virtually all age brackets, many are optimistic about the movie topping the opening weekend race, as well as its predecessor's performance at around the same time a couple of years back.

Analyst Phil Contrino of BoxOffice.com, who first predicted the $36 million opening, said, "Reviews and social media buzz are very encouraging. The ensemble cast of well-known and respected actors further bolsters the appeal." Being a family movie with cute and colorful visuals, Hotel Transylvania 2 is indeed very social media buzz-worthy.

The sequel movie may also bring in a hit for star Adam Sandler, whose recent film Pixels has recently underperformed in the box office. The film, also produced by Sony, has grossed $225 million worldwide.
