"Today, I am confirming our plans to launch Priv, an Android device named after BlackBerry's heritage and core mission of protecting our customers' privacy. Priv combines the best of BlackBerry security and productivity with the expansive mobile application ecosystem available on the Android platform," said Chen.
Chen believes that the Blackberry Priv would provide the company with modest sequential revenue growth in the remaining quarters of the fiscal year, reported The Verge.
According to The New York Times, the company has reported a loss of about $66 million (excluding accounting adjustments, or 13 cents a share, for its second quarter). The revenue of the company has decreased from $916 million to $490 million as compared to last year.
Mr. Chen said that the Blackberry Priv is the answer for former BlackBerry users who missed the physical keyboard but also need apps. He touted that the Android for Work on the BES12 platform will provide the best-in-class security for enterprise users.
"Priv will run on the Android operating system, bringing together the best of BlackBerry security and productivity with the expansive mobile application ecosystem available on the Android platform," Chen said in a statement.
Chen also added that the company's plan is to sell additional softwares that work with management softwares and can work with any internet-connected devices.
Mr. Chen has also expressed that the company will still work on the deveopment and enhancements of the operating system of Blackberry 10 focusing on the security and privacy enhancements.
Mashable reported that the Blackberry Version 10.3.3 will be available in the market in March 2016.
