Today marks the ten-year anniversary of the passing of master chef and, Julia Child.

Child is best known for her revolutionary cookbook, Mastering the Art of French Cooking, designed for American women who wanted to cook French cuisine. Child had written the book after studying under French master chef, Max Bugnard, at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris.

The book itself took years for Child to write, edit, and publish with her two co-authors, Simone Beck and Louisette Bertholle and was finally published in 1961.

Within the book, Child wrote about the basics for beginners who wished to become trained in French cuisine and featured one of her most famous recipes for boeuf bourguignon-one that would be known as Child's signature dish. Upon its publication, the book became a national bestseller and is still currently in print.

Child's success with Mastering the Art of French Cooking launched her writing career, and she became a known author of works including her memoir, My Life in France-a detailed account of her background as a master chef and author. Later on after her first publication, Child went on to write and publish The French Chef Cookbook and Mastering the Art of French Cooking, Volume Two.

Aside from writing, Child also created a successful career as a television personality, starring in programs including The French Chef, Julia Child & Company, and Dinner at Julia's. In fact, the recipes that are featured in The French Chef Cookbook were recipes that had been featured in The French Chef.

In 2002, a blogger, Julie Powell, had created the Julie/Julia Project-a project where Powell would cook the entirety of Mastering the Art of French Cooking while updating her viewers about her experience. The blog had gained a great deal of media attention, including Child's.

However, when interviewed about the blog, Child did not believe that Powell took cooking seriously. Shortly after the blog's success, Powell went on to pen her own memoir about the experience.

Two years after the Julie/Julia project, Child passed away in her sleep on August 13th, 2004.

In 2008, the memoir was combined with Child's My Life in France as the basis of Nora Ephron's film, Julie & Julia. Oscar-winner, Meryl Streep, and nominee, Amy Adams, starred as Child and Powell. Streep's performance as the warm and affectionate Child brought her to an Oscar nomination for Best Actress.

Despite being gone for ten years, several media outlets have taken the time to post fond memories, quotes, or stories about Child and her work.
