(Photo : REUTERS/Jim Young) Police in Chicago are investigating the mysterious murder of a grandmother and a pregnant mother after unknown assailants opened fire on the family on Monday.
A grandmother and a pregnant mother were among the casualties after an unknown assailant opened fire on a family on Monday evening. At least three people - including a male toddler - were among the people injured in the shooting.
The victims had reportedly just arrived in their local neighborhood when a car drove by and opened fire on them.

The late grandmother has been identified as Lolita Wells, who is reportedly aged between 46 to 48. She is reported to have been hit with a bullet in the leg. The local police have announced that the pregnant mother is Patricia Chew, aged 24. She was hit on her right side. Chew and Wells are the toddler's mother and grandmother respectively.
Police spokesperson Eugene Roy said they still have no idea who attacked the victims and no arrests in connection with the shooting have been made.
The two adult males were taken to the Mount Sinai hospital. One of them had gunshot wounds in both of his legs, while the other was hit in the abdomen. While one of them is already out of danger, the other is still in serious condition. The spokesperson, however, would not give the names of the injured males.
The male toddler has been identified as Princeton Chew. He was reportedly taken to Stroger Hospital. The boy was also hit on his sides. Fortunately, the boy's wounds are not that serious.
Local media reported that the boy is already talking with his relatives in the hospital room. It could not be confirmed if the toddler knew that he has lost his mother and grandmother.
Police and medical response units immediately cordoned the crime scene.
This is not the first incident involving families or multiple persons being shot in this Chicago neighborhood known as Back of the Yards.
Last week, a family and a group of people were shot in separate occasions by unknown assailants.
Before the family of five was attacked, at least three separate shootings incidents were reported earlier on Monday. One of the victims in the first shooting died of wounds. The police, however, has not released any information about these incidents or if they are related to one another.
