McDonald's Canada Introduces Self-serve Order And Table Service

McDonald's

Lining up for an order of cheeseburger is something McDonald's customers in Canada may no longer be doing in the near future. The popular fastfood chain's CEO in the country, John Betts, has introduced the self-serve order and table service options for its customers. This is a bid to increase its restaurants' personal interactions with everyone who visits McDonald's.

A Toronto Sun report says that Betts is looking into re-designing the counters to accommodate the changes, which he sees to be implemented in all McDonald's restaurants in Canada by 2017. Betts said there will be a division to separate orders from claims. A class case that will serve as a divider will feature the golden arches' bakery goods. "We will basically blow up the front counter," Betts said.

Betts emphasized the preference for on-demand services, saying that while a few years back it was all about "uniformity, reliability and consistency", now, everyone has his own way of doing things and wanting things done. To address this, McDonald's Canada will be employing additional workforce to be able to serve customers on their tables. Bett puts the number of additional employees to about 15,000, which means 15,000 new employment opportunities.

According to Toronto Star, there are more than 1,000 McDonald's branches in Canada. And about 10 to 15 additional employees are needed to get more of the jobs done. The new set up needs designated greeters and waiters who will attend to customers on their seats. Some staff will also have to help customers understand the new way of ordering using the kiosks which have been made for that purpose.

Along with the new set up and additional employees, McDonald's Canada is also introducing a new made-to-order burger, which starts at $6.99. It is currently the most expensive burger, and customers are presented with over thirty different options to fit the burger to their own taste. The new setup has first been introduced in Australia, and the results have been promising. Betts is looking forward to seeing Canadian customers take to the new setup as well.
