Chevrolet introduces its latest environment-friendly electric vehicle. Tagged as the speediest and the meanest of all EV class, the 2016 Chevrolet Volt truly redefines the next generations of electric cars.

The Chevrolet Volt is a hybrid-electric vehicle that comes with brilliance in its details. The car comes with a stunning design and unbelievable efficiency -- offering up to 53 pure electric miles on a single charge.

Chevrolet is confident that the efficiency and speed of the Volt will make a hit among its customers. With a range of up to 420 miles with a full charge and full tank of gas, the American automobile manufacturer expects that driving 1,000 miles between fill-ups can be easily done by charging the car regularly.

Mashable highlighted the first-generation of Chevrolet Volt, which had its debut in 2011, was considered to be a moniker as it was the only vehicle of its kind introduced to the market. But since then, other car companies have shifted their gaze on plug-in hybrids with extended range. With the advent of range-extended electric vehicles, EVs with short ranged-extending gasoline engines mounted like BMW i3, Prius plug-in and Ford C-Max Energi have gone on sale.

The Volt, as a hybrid EV, carries a battery pack which powers two electric motors and a gasoline engine. The battery pack is a 192-cell unit which is 5.5 feet long and is mounted underneath the car.

The batteries can produce 18.4 kilowatts per hour -- providing power to two 110 kilowatt electric motors. Both motors are mounted at the front of the car.

The twin electric engines can dish out 149 horsepower and a torque of 294 pound-feet. The volt also has a 1.5-liter, four-cylinder engine which can offer 101 horsepower and was rated at 42 mpg.

The Volt in its totality was rated at 106 mpg-e. To calculate for mpg-e, one has to have an understanding on electric cost, battery cost and the electric motor efficiencies. Thus, Mashable also reported that attaining the rating of 106 mpg-e is good.

The Chevy Volt was designed primarily to take note of efficiency rather to drive enjoyment, but the Volt happens to deliver both aspects quite well. With its two electric motor engine, it is capable to go from 0 to 60 mph in a matter of 8.4 seconds, not to mention it has a top speed of 98 mph.

The gasoline engine might come as a disappointment for a few, but the 2016 Volt is still an enjoyable car. The Chevy 2016 Volt will come at an introductory price of $ 33,170.
