About 1,500 kilometers away, Russia uses its warships to target the Islamic State (IS) in Syria from the Caspian Sea on Oct. 7, Wednesday morning.
According to Russia's Defence Minister, Sergei Shoigu, the Caspian fleet fires missiles from the Caspian Sea, and he told President Vladimir Putin through a televised remark that Russia carried out 26 missile attacks from the four warships. The operation destroyed all the 112 targets and did not launch any strikes upon civilian areas, as reported by Sky News and as Russia claimed.

Russia has already admitted that its air force will work at the same time with Syrian army ground offensives to help end the terror group's contribution to the Syrian conflicts. It came after Moscow began launching air attacks on IS last week, since Sept. 30.
During the televised meeting between the defence minister and the Russian president, the latter praised the Russian military for being well prepared. Shoigu added that Moscow they though established contacts without partnering with the Turkish.
Additionally, BBC News said that the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that it is the most intense fighting that happened in months in the provinces of Idlib and Hama. The fight followed after the Russian air strikes were launched in the same areas.
The Caspian Fleet of Russia is composed of the Caspian Flotilla that is the maritime part of the country's Southern Military District, which is stationed in the port city of Astrakhan, Russia. In turn, the flotilla was composed of several brigades and divisions of coastal troop units and surface ships, which carries out anti-terror activities and protects the oil and trade interests.
In 2011, the Russian Navy announced that the Caspian Flotilla would receive 16 new warships as well as missile-carrying vessels by the year 2020. In the same year, 2011, two missile-carrying boats were sent there.
By the year 2014, the Caspian states signed a treaty that bans any military deployment by a non-Caspian state in the Caspian Sea, which rules out any possible deployment of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization forces there.
