A hacker suspected of stealing the personal data of hundreds of United States government personnel and then giving it to the Islamic State (ISIS) has been apprehended in Malaysia. Local authorities announced on Friday that the suspect will be extradited to the U.S. to face charges.

The hacker has been identified as Ardit Ferizi from Kosovo. He is suspected of stealing the personal data of more than a thousand American civilians and military personnel and then passing the information to a member of ISIS.

Malaysian police said Ferizi came to the country ostensibly to take up a computer course in digital forensics. However, his suspicious activities have alerted the authorities who caught him on Sept. 15 in the Malaysian capital. When he was apprehended, Ferizi was a student at the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology.

The American Justice Department believes that Ferizi is the head of the Kosova Hacker's Security (KHS). The group is suspected of cracking their way into the database of U.S. firms. Ferizi is also accused of stealing the more than hundred thousand credit card personal data.

The group has boasted about their handiwork on Twitter claiming responsibility for the digital break-in.

The document basically threatened people, whose data they have stolen, with death since ISIS has been provided with their names and contact information.

U.S. authorities pointed to the document as proof that Ferizi has provided crucial information to Islamic militants that can result in the injury or death of American government personnel.

Reporters tried to verify the stolen data by contacting the victim's phone and email but many are not longer in serivce, according to CNN. Those who were successfully contacted, confirmed that they have been warned by the U.S. government about the leak of their personal information.

Malaysia has a mainly Muslim population and has so far been spared from terrorist attacks of Islamic militants. However, around a hundred Malaysians have been apprehended by the local authorities for suspected ties with ISIS.

Two months ago, ten such suspects were caught by the authorities - six of the suspects reportedly belonged to either the local police or military.
