Dodge Unveils 707 HP Hellcat Charger

Dodge is fast expanding its car lineup.

The iconic American marque has unveiled a Hellcat version of its Charger muscle car at the Vinsetta Garage in Berkley. The unveiling of the Hellcat version is part of its Woodward Dream Cruise celebration.

Dodge's 2015 Charger SRT Hellcat runs on a 6.2-liter Hemi "Hellcat" engine that produces 707 horsepower (HP) and 650 foot pounds of torque.

The Hellcat zooms from 0 to 60 mph. in 3.7 seconds. It also burns 1.5 gallons of gasoline per minutes.

"This is a car that most brands would never bring to market. This is a car that really does not have a business case for it. Sometimes, you need to disregard the data; sometimes, you need to disregard the focus groups," said Tim Kuniskis, Brand CEO of Dodge.

Dodge's Hellcat Charger runs at a top speed of 204 mph. It's got a new supercharger made of forged-steel crankshaft and induction-hardened bearing surfaces. It also has high-strength and forged-alloy pistons.

The Detroit-based company didn't disclose the price tag of the car that will go on sale in early 2015. Even the fuel used by the car hasn't been disclosed.

Dodge also launched a Hellcat version of the Challenger earlier this year with a price tag of US$59,995.

Dodge is celebrating its 100 years in the business. Their Hellcat cars are designed to reinforce its Chrysler's flagship performance brand.

Kuniskis said Dodge's move is about changing the brand of this kind of car. Cars like Hellcat can help boost the car brand.

Dodge's sales have fallen by 2.9 percent so far in 2014 due to Dodge's decision to discontinue the Avenger mid-size sedan.

Both the Avenger and the Hellcat Challenger will be on display this coming weekend at 13 Mile and Woodward for a Dream Cruise.

Kuniskis said they aren't sure how long they'll build and sell the Hellcat Challenger or the Hellcat Charger.
