Jack Ma Joins UK Prime Minister's Team of Business Consultant

(Photo : Reuters/Lucy Nicholson) British Prime Minister David Cameron has named Alibaba founder Jack Ma as one of his advisers.

British Prime Minister David Cameron has designated Chinese billionaire Jack Ma to be one of his business consultants. This announcement was made before the start of President Xi Jinping's four-day state visit to Britain and the country is seeking to closer ties with the People's Republic.

In a statement, the Cameron's spokeswoman said the second richest man in China will "provide particular help and advice on how to get small and medium sized British businesses boosting their exports and in particular accessing Chinese markets through platforms like Alibaba."

The UK leader has requested Alibaba's founder to meet him in his office, 10 Downing Street on Monday night. 

As per South China Morning Post, for Cameron and finance minister George Osborne, the partnership is meant to concretize Britain's relationship with the second largest economy in the world in order to strengthen its industrial and commercial development in the years to come.

According to Lanka Business Online, because of this visit, an estimated number of 3900 jobs will be created in the entire country in accord with the fulfillment of commercial deals worth 30 billion British Pounds between both nations.

"Amongst the industries benefitting is retail with over 1 billion British Pounds in export deals to be agreed, which will see UK based companies expand their global footprint into China," Cameron said in a statement.

Human rights advocates have accused the government of cringing to China. Protests from these activists are to be expected during the visit.

The circle of advisors of the prime minister comprises 19 members since July, including elite businessmen from top British companies like chief executives of BP, Easyjet and Rolls Royce. Eric Schmidt, the chairman of Google, used to be a member of the team.

Members do not receive any compensation for the service they offer.
