Premier Li Keqiang has congratulated Justin Trudeau and the Liberal Party for their victory in the recent Canadian polls. In a statement on Wednesday, he pledged to continue to work with the new administration to further the bilateral ties between Canada and China.
"With joint efforts, the two countries have achieved frequent exchanges, extensive cooperative and deep friendship between our peoples," Premier Li said. "I am looking forward to working with the prime minister to expand bilateral, exchanges and cooperation in various fields."

Trudeau continues to receive congratulatory messages from world leaders following his landslide victory in the polls on Monday. On Tuesday, the 42-year-old received a call from U.S. President Barack Obama. According to the White House, both men discussed the importance of furthering the "strong" bilateral relationship between the U.S. and Canada as well as deepening their collaboration in climate change and the fight against terrorism.
Trudeau, who has received congratulatory messages from the leaders of the UK, Italy, France and Mexico, has already hinted that he plans to reduce Canada's participation in the war against the Islamic State (IS). Also high on his agenda are plans to bolster Canada's economy by increasing government spending and also increase the country's commitment to climate change.
Trudeau is set to announce his cabinet on Nov 4. Experts say his gender-balanced government is likely to also be bipartisan. While he assembles his cabinet, Canada's new premier is also preparing for the United Nations (UN) climate change summit in Paris next month. This will be Trudeau's first international outing as Canada's new leader and many pundits say he is likely to make far-reaching commitments regarding climate change as a way to reflect the new direction that the country will follow under his leadership.
There has been a lot of chatter about Trudeau's lack of experience. Many described his victory in the polls earlier this week as a "surprise."
Trudeau is the first son of Canada's 15th Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau. He began his political career after a long stint as a teacher in 2008 when he was elected as a Member of Parliament.
