With the goal of producing real-time news especially on weather and traffic, Russia-based Internet search engine Yandex on Monday announced its plans to launch an empirical "newswire of the future."

The "Yandex for media" project is set to commence next month. It will deliver breaking news in Russian for media channels who opt to sign up at no zero cost. The news will largely focus on short traffic updates, weather forecasts and major headlines to start with. However, the list of choices is expected to expand in the future.

"We don't call it a news agency. From our perspective, it's kind of experimental prototype of the newswire of the future - how a news agency may look like... The news timeline will be developed by our algorithms (or robots if you wish)," Yandex told AFP.

The chairwoman of the project Maria Petrova told Vedmosti newspaper that the automated news service has already been offered to several news channels, including the Interfax news agency. According to the Times Live, Interfax has already utilized programs to create financial data, and America's Associated Press has also started to adopt computer-written news stories.

Furthermore, Narrative Science, a US-based firm, has invented an algorithm that can scrutinize data to generate English articles.

The leading Internet giant's drive targets to obtain computers rather than human journalists to report stories.

Meanwhile, it can be remembered that just last week, Microsoft and Yandex announced a partnership that made Yandex the default browser of all devices in Russia, Turkey and other CIS country running Windows 10.

Furthermore, talking about the Russian Internet market, Yandex and Google are the top two leading search engines with mobile search share of 43.8 and 54.4 per cent share respectively. But the former tops the latter when it comes to overall rating with 57.4 and 34.9 per cent respectively, according to RT.
