(Photo : Photo by Dan Kitwood/Getty Images) Facebook has launched a new tool to help non-profit organizations raise money on the social networking website.
Facebook announced on Monday that it will be revamping its app on both Android and iOS mobile devices. The upcoming new and improved notification system is intended to be at par with Google Now, which is by far superior to Facebook's.
The Facebook Newsroom informed its users that they can expect to be notified of important and memorable events related to their friend's, such as birthdays. Users can also be notified of the scores of their favorite team in sports or television show schedules based on their like pages. If you intend to attend an event you have signed up to, FB can also notify about that too.

The new notification tab can also be customized based on the user's location and if the location history is activated. FB users can also receive updates on upcoming or ongoing social events in their community. Users can also receive local news via this new system. Alerts and updates regarding the weather as well as movies currently available within the user's area will also be sent. Names of restaurants and places of interest can also be sent to users along with links to reviews.
Independent observers have pointed out that not all Facebook users will receive the upcoming update. The social network giant intends to release it bit by bit. However, U.S. based users will be the first to get hold of the new system. The system can be custom fit by the user by adjusting the Settings and has the option to add more "cards". Critics could not help but point that such cards are eerily similar to the cards used by Google Now. The company is yet to announce when Facebook users from other parts of the world will receive the new notification system.
Facebook's product manager Keith Peiris said that even after they launch their newest notification tab, they will still make improvements based on the feedback from users.
