Transgender Couple Raises Awareness About What It Takes to Raise a Family

An ordinary-looking Kentucky couple is raising awareness on family, honesty, and love as a closer look shows that they bear a slight difference from most other couples - their gender preferences have been switched.

Nick and Bianca Bowser may not be the average man-and-woman people expect to raise a family, though they are trying their best to be good enough, especially for their two sons, Kai and Pax.

Twenty-seven-year-old Nick was born a female named Nicole while Bianca, 32, was named Jason when she was still a male.

In 2009, the two met and fell in love in Atlanta as Nick was undergoing his gender transition. After being together for a while, Nick and Bianca decided to build a family together.

They got married discretely in November 2011, supported by their family and friends.

Since they cannot afford to change their reproductive organs yet, the two decided to 'make use' of what they have.

Nick got pregnant with Bianca's baby, Kai, in 2010. He struggled to cope with living like a man with a baby bump describing it as "an absolutely horrible experience."

However, when baby Kai came along, the couple experienced such joy that they wanted him to have a sibling.

Nick then got pregnant with Pax and realized that all the difficulties and criticisms were worth it.

"It was a daily struggle. I hated the way my body was changing. It did not match my inner feelings. But It's all been worth it, regardless of how difficult it was," he told Mail Online.

Now, the couple faces the dilemma of having to tell their children that Dad is actually Mom and Mom is really Dad.

However, in spite of every hardship, both of them believe that they were guided in 'the right direction.'

The couple echoed the thoughts of numerous transgender couples stating that through building a family they only want to be advocates for the transgender community.
