Originally from Britain, he made a name for himself as a model for various top designers. He also became a television and movie actor appearing in several shows such as Bones and Cold Case. Sarpong also received an award from the San Diego Film festival for his lead portrayal in the film No Weapons, according to U.S. Magazine.

An official statement from the Sarpong family said police are still investigating the actor's suicide. They appreciated the outpouring of sympathy and support but pleaded that their right to privacy be respected during their period of grief.

Local police said they talked to Sarpong for several hours to convince him to abandon his plans but they failed. Pasadena Chief of Police Philip Sanchez said they are saddened by the death of Sarpong, and offered prayers to his loved ones.

He came to the United States when he was still a child with an ambition to become a professional basketball player. However, he eventually became a model for Tommy Hilfiger and an actor in Los Angeles. He even started his own brands of clothes called Future Stars.

Sarpong told reporters in an interview two years ago that much of the success he achieved was due to the guidance of his father who is from Ghana.

Those who knew Sarpong remember him as a down to earth man despite his being a famous male model and movie personality. He said that while he enjoys being famous, he does not let go to his head.

Success in show business seems to run in their family. His sister, June, is also a well-known television personality in Britain.

Fans and friends alike sent their condolences through online social media sites such as Twitter.
