Car manufacturer Detroit Electric revealed on Friday that the world's fastest two-seat, pure-electric sports car is set to be delivered to a customer in China within weeks.
Detroit Electric has announced that the owner of the car will be able to reach 100 kms/h from idle in just 3.9 seconds and can hit a top speed of 249 kms/h, Xinhua reported. The first batch of SP:01 electric sports cars are reportedly being produced in England. According to IBN Live, the car features a 285 horsepower, 210 kilowatt electric motor and combines a carbon fiber body with an aluminum chassis.

The lightweight car would go on sale in Europe and Asia over the coming weeks. A Detroit Electric spokeswoman said the first car is earmarked for a customer in China. The identity of the buyer has not yet been revealed, but it is expected to be announced within weeks.
According to Albert Lam chairman and group CEO of Detroit Electric, the company is thrilled to see the first production car roll off the line at its U.K. manufacturing site. He added that the first owner will appreciate the unique experience of driving the SP:01 as the company has worked hard to develop a technology that ensures it is one of the most rewarding pure electric sports cars to drive.
The car's battery is said to be the most energy-dense automotive battery pack in the world. It has an advanced battery management system on the vehicle that gathers data about the car's battery health.
The SP:01 is equipped with an app-based system which uses Android technology to allow users search for nearby roadside charge points. When the owner is away from the car, owners can use the app as a remote control unit via GSM to locate the vehicle. Owners can also check the charge status of the car by turning on the climate control system.
In a statement, Detroit Electric said that price tag of the car in Europe and Asia will be revealed over the coming weeks.
