Sabers a-flyin'. Boy band a-swingin'. Think of it as the-force-meets-kpop. Or Hollywood goes Hallyuwood. Star Wars Episode VII is tapping EXO for the South Korean version of its trailer.

SM Entertainment confirms that its popular boy band will be part of a promotional trailer that serves as drumbeat for the South Korean release of the sci-fi legend. Simultaneously, it announced that EXO will release a new digital single aptly titled "Lightsaber."

Word about a possible tie-up between SM Entertainment and Disney, which now holds the franchise for Star Wars, floated when the latter posted a silhouette image of a boy's group on the film's Facebook page.

And then the confirmation came: EXO it is!

The nine-member band composed of South Korean and Chinese boys has been enjoying worldwide popularity, with their k-pop albums topping music charts in Japan and elsewhere in Asia, while also registering huge first-week sales in North America.

Anticipation over how the boys would be like, swaggering in the spotlight, intercut with scenes from The Force, has been building up in the last 24 hours as it comes right on the heels of the much-acclaimed Japanese trailer.

Praised by viewers for containing more footage than the U.S. trailer that was released Oct. 19, the Japanese version has garnered close to five million views, and counting, since it was uploaded on You Tube on Nov. 6.

It opens with the power message, "Hope is not lost today... it is found", and introduces a new breed of Jedis, androids, pilots, Stormtroopers, who must now band with the old guard as they face new threats.

"Star Wars: Episode VII" will see the return of Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia, and Harrison Ford as Han Solo --the same roles they played in the 70s to 80s trilogy-- and is set to hit Asian theaters on Dec. 17, and U.S. theaters on Dec. 18.
