Activision Blizzard is now officially going to Hollywood with its popular games such as “Call of Duty.”
The American video game maker has a new film and TV production studio that will create original content based on its library of popular game titles. Nick van Dyk, a former Disney executive who played a significant role in the acquisitions of Pixar, Marvel, and Lucasfilm, will co-manage all aspects of the studio, Venture Beat reported.

Activision Blizzard will create a film from the first title in “Call of Duty.” The team plans to develop a robust cinematic universe based on the Call of Duty game franchise.
The company imagines a series of Call of Duty feature films and also mulls the possibility of producing television adaptations. The first release is planned for 2018 or 2019, though it is not yet clear if work on the first film is currently underway, according to Cinema Blend.
“Call of Duty” is a long-established military first-person-shooter series that has been played by 100 million people. Dyk said that the movie counterpart will have a consistent high-adrenaline and expletive action that fans are expecting from the game franchise, adding that it will be packed with action-adventure of the widest appeal.
"Call of Duty" games are usually under a three-year development cycle, and it would be difficult to produce an annual CoD movie.
The company said that it might borrow Marvel's playbook by establishing a fourth timeline that serves the film/TV side of the series, as the game has only three distinct timelines at present. The fourth timeline will most likely preserve purity of the three existing timelines, and it will likewise open up an opportunity creating the best movie adaptation, Mashable learned.
Activision's new studio emphasizes the video game industry's story-telling competence and growing influence, as well as its ambition to expand the appeal of its video game titles beyond gameplay consoles and mobile devices.
