(Photo : Getty Images) A British student nearly damaged her eyes irreversibly after a pair of £7 contact lenses got stuck on her eyes after the Halloween festivities.
A student, who dressed as a leopard during Halloween, was hospitalized after removing a pair of cat-eye contact lenses that ripped her cornea. The cornea is the protective transparent layer on the front of the eyes.
After the cheap £7 contact lenses got stuck, following a night out with friends, 18-year-old Tia Goode is now wearing an eye patch. She is a psychology student at the University of South Wales. She panicked upon realizing that the contacts wouldn't remove easily and woke up her housemate to ask for help.

The contacts were eventually removed, but she was in so much pain that she could not open her eyes. It took about forty minutes to remove the contact lenses. Goode said that the dry lens made it stick to her eyeball. She tried to go to sleep afterward but the pain was so unbearable that she decided to go to the hospital.
At Prince Charles Hospital's A&E, after four hours of waiting, the doctors informed Goode that the cause of her unbearable pain is that the contacts ripped her cornea. An anaesthetic was placed in her eye so she could open them. The doctor prodded her eye with a cotton bud, thinking that some lens was still stuck.
Actually it was the cornea that had ripped so bad. Luckily, she did not sustain any lasting damage to her eye. She was given antibiotics and instructed to cover her eyes until it recovers.
Goode has warned people like her, who are fond of using contact lenses, not to buy cheap nonprescription contacts. She bought her cat-eye lenses at £7 to go with her costume. But now she thinks wearing them could be super dangerous.
Many students love the Halloween weekend because it affords the opportunity to create the most attractive costumes, props, and accessories. But what they do not realize and put into consideationr are the health hazards of these props and accessories.
