After starting a new FDA-approved drug regimen to eradicate Hepatitis C, former "Baywatch" actress Pamela Anderson revealed via a nude photo on social media that she has been cured of the disease.
The star captioned the Instagram photo, "I am CURED!!! - I just found out #nomorehepc #thankyou #blessing #family #prayer #live I pray anyone living with Hep C can qualify or afford treatment. Anderson told People magazine earlier this year that the drug did not cause any liver damage or side effects, and that it has helped her live a fuller life.
The actress was diagnosed with Hepatitis C in 2001, and admitted that she got the disease from her former husband Tommy Lee after sharing a tattoo needle with him. Anderson claimed that Lee did not tell her that he had the disease while they were married. Lee later denied that he ever had Hepatitis C.
In 2003, Anderson accepted her fate with the disease, saying that she believes she only has a good 10 or 15 years left to live. Doctors at that time were not too pleased with Anderson's comments as many of them noted that today Hepatitis C treatment - specifically Interferon - can alleviate the effects of the disease and prolong the life of patients. At that time, Anderson was only taking medicines prescribed by a homeopathic doctor.
There are currently over 2.7 million people in the U.S. living with chronic Hepatitis C.
