"His stories about drugs put you off. You hear Elton talk about his darkest days and he tells you so you don't have those little moments. He has definitely lived it," said Sheeran.

Sheeran previously confessed that he was taking esctacy.

"It maybe the wrong way to look at it but it is far more important to be honest. I can either pretend to be something I'm not or I can be myself. If you're in the position of being a role model and go, 'No, I don't smoke,' then get caught smoking. It's far worse," Sheeran said.

According to the Mirror, Sheeran is not the only music artists who was influenced by John to stay away from illegal drugs.

Top music artists such as Lady Gaga and Eminem have also shared their own success stories of being deterring away from drugs through the help of John.

"He got me on the straight and narrow," said Lady Gaga. She confessed that John "saved" her.

Eminem gave the credits to John for helping him get clean.

John first used cocaine in 1974 and checked himself into rehab in 1990 in Chicago, according to the Mirror. John said he wasted a big part of his life when he was hooked with cocaine and alcohol.

He revealed that he almost died due to illegal substance abuse.

"I would have an epileptic seizure and turn blue, and people would find me on the floor and put me to bed," John said.
