One of the most powerful people in the world U.S. President Barack Obama finally became one of Facebook's 1.5 billion-plus users on Monday. Kicking off his new page was a post about taking "serious steps" on global warming and a promise to share his thoughts and some "just-for-fun stuff" on Facebook.

"Hello Facebook! I finally got my very own page," Obama's first post reads. "I hope you'll think of this as a place where we can have real conversations about the most important issues facing our country - a place where you can hear directly from me, and share your own thoughts and stories. (You can expect some just-for-fun stuff, too.)."

He continued that people should address the issue of climate change, like educating others. "Now, we've made a lot of progress to cut carbon pollution here at home, and we're leading the world to take action as well," he wrote.

"If we're all in this together, I'm confident we can solve this and do right by future generations," he added. A video post that now has more than 50,000 likes shows the world leader walking through the White House's backyard

As of writing, Obama, who describes himself in his bio as "dad, husband and 44th President of the United States," now has more than 650,000 page likes. The team filled his Facebook page with various, memorable images like the young Obama in Hawaii and his marriage to his wife Michelle in 2012.

This is not the first time Obama has stepped into the world of social media as he started reaching out to netizens on Twitter in May.

The president's Facebook team aims to make his page a two-way street for discussion. As per the deputy director of digital strategy Kori Schulman "This page will offer Americans a new venue to share their thoughts with the president on issues that they care about the most."
