Ironic as it may seem, Hong Kong singer Leo Ku ended his wife's single-blessedness again, but this time more publicly, as he and Lorraine Chan held their wedding banquet in Hong Kong on Wednesday, when all of China was celebrating Singles Day.

Ku and Chan tied the knot in Las Vegas in July 2014 following a 20-year romance that was mostly kept secret. Chan had been his assistant for years, and played a big part in making Ku's career soar from the time he launched his first album in 1994.

Their wedding reception at the Four Seasons Hotel, held mostly for family and close friends, brimmed with undertones of serenity amid subtle overtures, a deep-felt joy that screamed in all quietude, the kind that has characterized their private romance for years.

The groom, now 43, designed the wedding cake himself, and made all the other details fit his idea of the "perfect wedding" that he wanted to give his 45-year old bride.

"Since my first album in 1994, you have been faithfully taking care of me in my work. However, from now on, let me take care of your future," Ku once said on Weibo when he posted their Vegas wedding pictures last year. This year, he made good on that promise.

While Chan comes from a wealthy family, she displayed all the traits of a supportive woman who would not steal the spotlight from her man, instead opting to stay on the sidelights while nudging him toward fulfilment and success, throughout her relationship with Ku.

"I went bike with Lorraine one day. She accidently lost her balance and fell to the ground. It distressed me and make me want to being protective of her," Ku confided to friends later.

Among inner circles, Chan is largely credited for turning Ku into the heartthrob that he is today from the awkward aspiring singer that he was two decades ago, pouring her own financial resources into Ku's total makeover.

The canto-pop singer, known for the hit songs "Street Vendor" and "The Clock That Forgets Time", used to describe Chan as his "close assistant", which she did not take offense for, opting to remain "invisible" lest she hurts his then budding career.

Little did the public suspect that a romance has been brewing a long time, until Ku thanked Chan publicly when he won a popularity award in 2009, and had their first official photo together in 2011, and then finally went public about their relationship just months before their 2014 wedding.
