W&S Open Doubles: Four Top Seeds Fall in Opener

Four of the Top 5 seeds in the Western and Southern Open women's doubles fell on their opening matches including top seeds Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci who were ousted in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
The World No.1 tandem of Errani and Vinci were upset by sixth seeds Timotea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic in three sets, 6-2, 1-6, 8-10.

The Wimbledon champions got to a fast start taking the first set easily, but their opponents were more impressive in the second set, breaking the Italians three times to force a decider.
It was neck-and-neck in the third set as both teams would not let up on their serves until the score was tied at 8. Babos and Mladenovic took advantage of an unforced error by the Italians, scoring the final points to take the match.
In other matches, Spain's Garbine Muguruza and Carla Suarez Navarro outlasted the fifth seeded team of Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina in three thrilling sets, 7(7)-6(1), 1-6, 12-10.
Rogers Cup runners-up Cara Black and Sania Mirza lost against the tandem of Anabel Medina Garrigues and Yaroslava Shvedova, 3-6, 3-6.
Kimiko Date-Krumm and Andrea Hlavackova defeated third-seeded Kveta Peschke and Katarina Srebotnik in three sets, 6-4, 0-6 ,10-6.
Defending champions Hsieh Su-wei and Peng Shuai, who came into the tournament seeded second, were also eliminated by the pair of Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Lucie Safarova in a grueling three-set, 6-3, 5-7, 5-10.
Hsieh and Peng got off to a great start, breaking their opponents to take the lead in the first set. Pavlyuchenkova and Safarova responded in the second set, and continued applying pressure going to the third set.
After five ties, Pavlyuchenkova and Safarova rallied five points to end the Chinese nationals' dream of a repeat championship.
