The role of Leia in "Star Wars" lore has always had the title of Princess attached to it, but sources say this is going to change starting with episode 7.
Comic book Resources reports that director J.J Abrams has confirmed that Leia's new title will officially be General. This new title makes sense because it seems that Leia has been at the forefront of the rebel alliance since "New Hope" and in "Empire Strikes Back", as well as in "Return of the Jedi" where Leia was seen being a keen battle strategist.

However, even though Leia will be well-known as a General in the Resistance, Entertainment Weekly reports that there will be an awkward scene where someone slips up and calls her princess.
General Leia will once again be played by Carrie Fisher who played the character in the original trilogy. Abrams has quoted that it was a treat to work with the actress and it was good to see that Fisher did not show any signs of being rusty since the actress has not appeared in any films in the last few years.
From what has been released so far, it seems that Leia and Han Solo, played once again by Harrison Ford, will share an emotional embrace; if this means they are meeting for the first time or saying goodbye is not yet known.
When asked about reuniting with Harrison Ford for "Force Awakens", Fisher jokes and states that the two are pretty much tired of each other at this point, and that the biggest thing that the actress is interested about is how Ford has kept in such good shape over the years.
Apparently Fisher is okay with the dropping of the Princess title and with the new title Abrams has given her character. The actress says if there is one thing that fans will take away from this incarnation of Leia is to never give up.
"Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens" opens in theaters Dec. 18, 2015.
